Megan Ferryman, a first-year Master of Environmental Management (MEM) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) concurrent 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû student, recently shared insights into why she's pursuing concurrent 91ÉçÇø¸£Àûs, advice for students considering the concurrent 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû path and her favorite memory so far.

Why did you choose to pursue a concurrent 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû with the MEM?

Presentation at Duke Energy Week

In returning to school after being in a professional setting for several years, it was important to me that I continue to develop my business acumen while gaining an academic foundation in environmental management. Through my career, I hope to work at the intersection of business and the environment; the dual 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû allows me to deepen my knowledge in both business and environment while building skills that apply well to both areas.

What skills or experiences did you gain across the concurrent 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû program that WILL BE beneficial in your professional life?

One of the biggest skills that I am honing through the concurrent 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû program is the ability to dive into technical, scientific information and then zoom back out to apply and communicate that knowledge to diverse, varying audiences. Regardless of my future career path, the ability to connect with individuals and organizations in a way that makes environmental management accessible will be critical in helping me drive positive change for people and the planet.

What advice would you give to students considering a concurrent 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû path or currently in the program?

For students pursuing concurrent programs, I recommend fully leaning into each program – investing in relationships, coursework, leadership opportunities outside of class and other learning opportunities that pique your interest. One of the benefits of the concurrent 91ÉçÇø¸£Àû program is the extended amount of time you have to dedicate to your academic and professional development, so take advantage of that time by exploring and challenging yourself across topics and disciplines.

What is your favorite memory from your time in the program?

Many of my favorite memories have been made with friends in the program, including the lumberjack party and Energy Week!
